World Archery Awards 2015: Winners Announced

The World Archery Awards 2015 recognises the greatest Athletes of the Year, including the best newcomer, Volunteer of the Year, Coach of the Year and Photograph of the Year.

Here’s the winners, as they are revealed…

Volunteer of the Year: Carole Hicks 

Carole’s commitment to the development of para archery has driven the integration of the discipline into international competition and the growing support for para archery in and outside of the archery world.

Photograph of the Year: Thierry Quehen 

Coach of the Year: Ron van der Hoff

Head coach of the Netherlands archery team, Ron has overseen a strong, young recurve and compound squad that has collected numerous medals, including Sjef van den Berg’s silver at the Baku 2015 European Games.

Newcomer of the Year: Alex Wifler

Alex won the Vegas Shoot in 2015. After switching to shooting the compound bow due to injury, Alex won his first major senior medal in the biggest way possible: By taking home the Vegas title.

Para Athlete of the Year: Wu Chunyan 

Chunyan made her debut at the Donaueschingen 2015 World Archery Para Championships. She took home three gold medals: In the individual, mixed team and team competitions.

Recurve woman of the Year: Ki Bo Bae 

The London 2012 Olympic Champion won her first World Archery Champion title at the 2015 worlds in Copenhagen, after a year away from international competition. She also set a new world record for the 70-metre ranking round during the year.

Recurve man of the Year: Kim Woojin 

World Archery Champion in 2015, it was the second time that Korea’s Kim Woojin won the title. His first global win was back in 2011, a year before he took the World Cup Final crown in Tokyo.

Compound woman of the Year: Sara Lopez 

Colombian archer Lopez set multiple world records on the 50-metre ranking round, the 1440 Round and won her second Archery World Cup Final title in a row in 2015. The world number one from start to finish, Lopez was dominant.

Compound man of the Year: Stephan Hansen 

World Archery Champion in 2015, Stephan claimed his crown on home soil, in front of the Danish Parliament, in Copenhagen – just a few weeks after winning a third youth world title in Yankton.
