World Archery’s recently elected first vice president Jörg Brokamp was named to the International Olympic Committee’s athletes’ entourage commission in early September.

He previously served on the organisation’s active society commission from 2013 to 2022.

“I am very pleased and honoured about my renewed appointment to an IOC commission by president Thomas Bach, and my thanks go to Prof Dr Ugur Erdener for his ongoing support,” he said. “My appointment is recognition of the outstanding position of archery within the Olympic family and I am looking forward to fulfilling this new responsibility.”

A lawyer by profession, Brokamp is the secretary general of the German archery federation, which recently hosted the 2023 Hyundai World Archery Championships in Berlin. A member of World Archery’s executive board since 2011 who was made a vice president in 2019, he was elected first vice president earlier this year.

He emphasised prioritising athletes’ interests and providing world-class training conditions when outlining his candidacy. It’s a focus he can transfer to his new position as part of the group tasked with improving the services and opportunities provided to athletes across the world of sport.

The International Olympic Committee athlete’s entourage commission is chaired by the 1988 Olympic Champion in pole vault, Sergey Bubka.

Brokamp joins World Archery’s president in holding positions within Olympic governance. Prof Dr Erdener is currently chair of the medical and scientific commission and a member of the coordination commission for Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
